Justin Doyle

Born in 1975 in Lancaster, England, Doyle's musical education began as a chorister at Westminster Cathedral, and a choral scholar at King's College, Cambridge. He won second prize in the prestigious Cadaqués Orchestra Conducting Competition in 2006 in Barcelona and was awarded the Conductor Fellowship with the BBC Singers, with whom he continues to collaborate until today.
As a guest conductor Doyle works with ensembles like MDR Radio Choir, Norwegian Soloists' Choir, Poznań Philharmonic, Wrocław Barockorchester, Genesis Sixteen, Kammerakademie Potsdam und Swedish Radio Choir.
Doyle works with orchestras such as the Orchestra of Opera North, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Ensemble Resonanz and Finnish Baroque Orchestra on a regular basis. He is in demand as an opera conductor as well, especially for works by Mozart, Haydn and Britten, with productions in recent seasons for Opera North, Buxton Festival and Garsington Opera. In 2023, he will conduct operas by Judith Weir and George Frideric Handel at the Potsdam "Winteroper" in the Palace Theatre of Sanssouci's Neues Palais.
Alongside a deep love of Renaissance polyphony, Doyle is also highly interested in contemporary music. He and the the RIAS Kammerchor Berlin have initiated a series of major commissioned works, which the ensemble presents as world premieres each season. Together with Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin he explores the music by George Frideric Handel on a regular basis.
Additionally, Doyle is passionately committed to music from non-European cultures and to musical education. He was Professor for Choral Conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin from 2018– 2022. Since 2021 he is professor of Early Music at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.
